In small building structures using radiant heaters, the forces of natural convection are so weak that wide temperature differences are the rule rather than the exception.  ‘Cold spots’ followed by ice build-up are often the result, sometimes leading to a costly forced outage and loss of production. The CatafanTM is specifically designed to enhance performance of catalytic radiant heaters.  It is self-powered and does not require an external power source.  The CatafanTM improves heat distribution and uniformity within a space through forced convection.

The CatafanTM adds the all-important element of forced convection to augment the performance of radiant heaters.  Several beneficial effects are immediately noticeable.  Of critical importance, the heat is distributed more effectively, and delta T’s throughout the space are drastically reduced.  Cold spots located along the floor or near leaky openings in the building structure are all but eliminated.  Secondly, due to the homogenous nature of mixing created by strong air movement, there is virtually no build-up of combustible or hazardous gas concentrations in the space.  In fact, the CatafanTM with up to 400 cubic feet per minute of flow increases the fresh air and frequency of air changes.  This also lowers the humidity within the space, which would otherwise rise in an unvented building.  The result is increased safety and added protection against freeze-ups.

Construction

The CatafanTM is a rugged industrial unit.  The fan is powered by a thermoelectric module which has no moving parts.  The unit is rugged and durable and has a heavy-duty DC motor.  A wire grill on top prevents accidental contact with fan blades.  A mounting kit to attach the CatafanTM to the catalytic radiant heater is also available.

Certification

The explosion-proof CatafanTM is certified by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) for Class 1, Divisions 1 and 2, Group D hazardous locations temperature code T3C.
